SPRINGFIELD – Following the governor’s budget address for Fiscal Year 2027, State Senator Karina Villa (D-West Chicago) released the following statement:
“Budgets are not just numbers on a page – they are moral documents that shape the quality of life in our communities. For families across Illinois, these investments are the difference between putting food on the table and falling further behind.
“As Illinois works to absorb some of the impact of the Trump administration’s cuts to services, one thing is clear: working families cannot be an afterthought. They must be at the center of our budget priorities and revenue solutions.
“Working people can no longer be expected to shoulder a disproportionate share of the tax burden. As housing and grocery costs continue to skyrocket, families need meaningful relief. It is time to ensure that corporations and billionaires finally pay their fair share.
“During the coming months, I am committed to fighting for a fair and equitable budget that puts working families first. We have a responsibility to protect our neighbors and ensure Illinois remains the best state to raise a family.”
