SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Karina Villa (D-West Chicago) took the oath of office and was sworn into the 104th General Assembly, marking the start of her third term in the Senate. Senator Villa was born and raised in West Chicago and has been a lifelong resident of the 25th District.
“I am honored those I represent have entrusted me to continue working on their behalf and advocating for them in Springfield,” said Villa. “I am eager to begin working with my fellow lawmakers to address issues that are affecting our communities, especially when it comes to access to mental health treatment, housing and education. I am committed to ensuring that the voices of the 25th District are heard and will work to improve the lives of Illinoisans across the state.”
Villa was first elected to the Senate in 2020 for a two-year term, after previously serving as the Representative of the Illinois House’s 49th District. Senator Villa was the first Latina to represent the 25th District.
During this term, Villa will lead the Senate Progressive Caucus as Co-Chair and will be serving as the Senate Co-Chair of the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus.
