WEST CHICAGO – State Senator Karina Villa announced that three local school districts will receive over $3 million in funding under the evidence-based formula this year, in addition to base funding provided by the state.
“The evidence-based funding formula is critical to ensure that every student in Illinois receives a quality education, regardless of their income or where they live,” said Villa (D-West Chicago). “Our school districts must be equipped to address the needs of our students. I am grateful to see this funding come into the lives of children who need it.”
The 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula was an overhaul of the way the state funds K-12 education, ensuring public school funding is more equitable. Evidence-based funding is determined by the needs of individual school districts, including a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners, among other factors.
The school districts in Villa’s district set to receive funding include:
- East Aurora School District 131: $2,108,118
- West Chicago Community High School District 94: $861,834
- West Chicago Elementary School District 33: $76,988
