Villa secures $2 million to revitalize downtown West Chicago

WEST CHICAGO – State Senator Karina Villa secured $2 million in funding for infrastructure improvements to West Chicago’s downtown corridor.

“Our city’s main street should be a hub for everyone in the community to enjoy,” said Villa (D-West Chicago). “This investment will not only make our downtown more accessible but also serves to generate business and bring additional amenities to our community.”

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity awarded $30 million in grants to 25 recipients across the state through the Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets and Research in Illinois Spur Economic Recovery programs.

West Chicago will receive $2 million for a streetscape project under RDMS to improve the functionality, accessibility and aesthetics of Main Street and Turner Court downtown.

“Our working families deserve to have a beautiful downtown with infrastructure that supports a high quality of life,” said Villa. “These grants will bring economic activity, create jobs and invest in families while maintaining our city’s historic charm.”
