WEST CHICAGO – To emphasize the importance of learning throughout the summer and encourage young students to read during their time away from school, State Senator Karina Villa is hosting Books for Scoops across her district. Kids who read five books over the summer can join the Senator for a free ice cream scoop in August.
“Reading develops a child’s imagination and keeps them learning,” said Villa (D-West Chicago). “I encourage all families to participate in this program to support their kids’ love of reading — and ice cream!”
Villa is hosting Books for Scoops in three locations: West Chicago, Aurora and Batavia. Participants should bring their completed form with them to receive the free ice cream.
- West Chicago: Jorge’s Paleteria & Neveria, 110 S. Neltnor Blvd., Suite 4-5, West Chicago, on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. Participants will receive a free paleta (ice pop) with the Senator.
- Aurora: La Garrafa, 733 Aurora Ave., Aurora, on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Participants will receive a free scoop of ice cream with the Senator.
- Batavia: Batavia Creamery, 4 N. Island Ave., Batavia, on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Participants will receive a free junior ice cream scoop or cone with the Senator.
Families can visit their local libraries to help them complete their summer reading — West Chicago Public Library at 118 W. Washington St., West Chicago; Aurora Public Library at 101 S. River St., Aurora; and Batavia Public Library at 10 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.
