Villa kick-starts summer reading program

WEST CHICAGO – To continue fostering children’s passion for reading throughout the summer months, State Senator Karina Villa will be hosting her annual Books for Scoops events across the 25th District in partnership with three local ice cream shops.

“I am so excited to be hosting these events to connect with students and support their love of reading,” said Villa (D-West Chicago). “Summer reading is extremely important to keep students engaged and learning all year-round.”

To participate, children should read five books, fill out the corresponding form, bring the completed form to the Books for Scoops event in August and share their summer reading with Senator Villa for a free treat.

  • Aurora: La Mary Neveria y Paleteria, 909 S. Union St., Aurora, on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. Participants will receive a free scoop of ice cream.
  • Batavia: Batavia Creamery, 4 N. Island Ave., Batavia, on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Participants will receive a free junior scoop of ice cream.
