4692258762 5e011036c5 bWEST CHICAGO – To encourage children to read this summer and prevent “summer slide,” State Senator Karina Villa is launching a Summer Book Club for kids across the 25th District.

“By encouraging children to read at a young age, we can help instill a love for reading that will last a lifetime,” said Villa (D-West Chicago). “Reading over the summer break can also help keep students sharp and ready to head back to class in the fall.”

The Summer Book Club requires students to read five books of their choice during the summer break, record the names of the books on a form and turn the form in at one of two local book club events at the end of summer.

Kids in the Batavia area can bring their completed forms to Batavia Creamery, 4 N. Island Ave, Batavia, on Aug. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m., and those closer to West Chicago can turn theirs in at Jorge’s Paleteria, 110 S. Neltnor Blvd. Ste 4-5, West Chicago, on Aug. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. Both locations will be offering free ice cream to children who have completed the book club.

“As we go on trips and vacations this summer, let’s not forget all the adventures we can go on through books,” said Villa.

Book club forms are available at the Batavia Public Library, West Chicago Public Library, online at SenatorVilla.com or printed out at home. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can simply write down the books you read on a piece of paper to share with Senator Villa. Questions can be directed to Villa’s office at 630-326-9319.
